Samira Deq, M.A.

wiss. Mitarbeiterin, Abteilung Banerjee

I am a doctoral researcher in Mita Banerjee’s team. I hold a B.A. in American Studies and History (2021) and an M.A. in American Studies (2023), both from Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz. My bachelor’s thesis examined the impact of Black nationalism in the United States during the Civil Rights Era, while my master’s thesis focused on the concept of Black feminist love as a theoretical framework for fostering long-lasting solidarity between Black and Indigenous women. In 2024, I participated in Harvard University’s annual Institute for World Literature, hosted by the University of Cyprus in Nicosia.

My research interests encompass African American and African diasporic literature and culture, Black German Studies, Indigenous Studies and Gender Studies. In my dissertation project, I investigate the concept of Blackness in Germany within both national and transnational contexts.
